FAQ | ABOUT CHRIS MACNEIL

FAQ

1. WHAT IS “ROOBY MOON”?

ROOBY MOON is a comic strip by illustrator and artist, Chris MacNeil. It is about a young girl, Rooby Moon, her brother, Sylvester, their sister Toodles, their dogs Biskit and Rusty, a few cats, squirrels, their parents... It has grown in ways I did not anticipate, and has spawned a spin-off strip, OGDEN's POND, which I have not decided how far to take yet.

ROOBY MOON and OGDEN's POND reflect the author’s sense of humor, but maybe not yours. ROOBY MOON is pretty benign. If you are offended by them, then you have incredibly thin skin. OGDEN's POND is only marginally more political in it's humor, though I can see it growing more so. If I could pull off the kind of pointed humor that Walt Kelly did with POGO, then I could die a happy man. If you are offended by words and jokes, if I don't agree with your political views, then I apologize for offending your erroneous views, and suggest you find something else to do that doesn't raise your blood pressure.

2. HOW OFTEN DO YOU POST A NEW “ROOBY MOON COMIC STRIP?

Chris MacNeil shall post new comics whenever he damn well feels like it.
(this line was stolen with no changes from Chris Harding's WE THE ROBOTS about page-- thanks Chris!)

OK, maybe a little more regular than that. I was doing them three times aweek. Let me get back in the swing of things and then I'll let you know the schedule. Come back and visit.

4. Can I put “ROOBY MOON or “OGDEN'S POND comics on my Web site?

I've sliced up these strips specifically so they can't be served up on someone else's page. I'm not being stingy, I'm just being paranoid. Considering how dificult it is to maintain control of any published work, multiply that by a few hundred million times because it's on the web, and add to it the upcoming potential loss via the Orphan Works Act, and I think my paranoia is at least partially justified.

There is no frames-busting script on these pages, so if you run a frames site, I suppose you could deliver a complete page to your readers within a frame. I'd still rather you just link to roobymoon.com. If you really want to run these strips on your site, then email me and I will talk with you about it. Here's a few images which look suspiciously like banner ads to use for a link if you'd like:

5. Isn’t Chris MacNeil too old and decrepid to be drawing comic strips?

His grandchildren don't think so. Neither does his mom.

6. Isn’t this 'ABOUT' page just copied and modified from CHRIS HARDING'S “WE THE ROBOTS” about page?

Well, uh... yeeesss. Do you think he will notice? Don't tell him...

4. ...about that Chris MacNeil...

Two score and twelve years ago, in the rolling, green and leafy hills of Massachusetts, Chris MacNeil was hatched. From the gently decomposing underside of a pile of the last years leaves he emerged. A regular delight, he filled diapers and upchucked for several years. He daydreamed and spit wadded his way through grade sdhool, graduated to minor explosives and fist fights in Jr. High. High school was spent chasing girls and bump starting cars...

And then college. Years spent arguing with instructors, disagreeing with art class critiques. Chasing girls, driving beat-up old cars...

And now, hunched over a drawing table, drawing, drawing, drawing. Comics, cartoons, illustrations; flies, conclusions, blanks...

A more exclusive girl chasing now-a-days... still driving jalopies...
